Arthur, Celtic Warrior and King of BritainBOOKS
|
A comprehensive look at the Grail that reveals its fundamentally Celtic nature beneath layers of Christian interpretations. "The Matter of Britain, as the Arthurian legends are called, holds as much power for the contemporary reader as it did for medieval lords and ladies. In this book, French scholar Markale looks at the various extant written forms of one of the key constituents of the Matter of Britain, the story of the Holy Grail. His specific project is to separate the legend's various elements and determine which parts are pagan in origin and which are Christian, allowing us to penetrate to the true meaning of the Grail and its Quest, legacies of a rich Celtic spirituality that has nourished the Western psyche for centuries. He reveals the original British warrior-hero who resisted the Saxons in the fifth century. He also examines how these myths were later used by the Knights Templar, as well as how their links with Alchemy and Catharism played a decisive role in the shaping of Western thought.
Historic King Arthur: Authenticating the Celtic Hero of Post-Roman Britain: Assembles, analyzes, and interprets an impressive array of primary documents from post-Roman Britain to argue that the legendary hero was a historical person who became king of Britain as Ambrosius Aurelianus at age 15, fought Saxons on the continent as Riothamus, and died at the battle of Camlann. Also integrates the various records to construct chronologies both of events and of accounts. The material and commentary could be very useful to scholars of the period even if they are not convinced by the argument.
The 21 Lessons of Merlyn:
... This book is not a spellbook for beginners... It is a course in druid magic for intermediate and advanced practitioners.
King of the Celts:
The prolific writer on things Celtic strips from Arthurian legend all he considers dross, and so reveals the original British warrior-hero who resisted the Saxons in the fifth century.
Le Morte D'Arthur by Thomas Malory: First published by William Caxton in 1485, Sir Thomas Malory's unique and splendid version of the Arthurian legend tells an immortal story of love, adventure, chivalry, treachery, and death. The rousing epic of King Arthur and his court has had a lasting effect on the traditions and literature of the English-speaking people. These well-known tales represent the bridge between pagan and Christian, Druid and Dominus. Arthur emerges at the end of the Roman Empire and the beginning of a British nation. Paperback, 576pp
The Lost Books of Merlyn
We haven't read this book yet but it's highly recommended by readers, for example Pansy writes: "I am actually glad that alot of people don't think this book is serious, because that empowers me even more! Just like in any religious belief, you must believe with the mind of a child! Otherwise, it will never work for you! Magic is performed with your heart, and with a mind that is able to accept fairies, unicorns etc...Believe what you will, but 'Merlyn' changed my life forever!"
A Knight and His Weapons: Everything you wanted to know about spears, lances, axes, maces, hammers, swords, daggers, and even crude firearms. Oakeshott presents the history of each weapon, including how it was made and used in battle.

Merlin: Priest of Nature: If he was a real person, when and where did he live? In this provocative survey of all the known literary and historical sources, Markale draws an enlightening portrait of the shaman known as Merlin, who lived in the Lowlands of Scotland late in the sixth century, some fifty years after the reign of King Arthur.
King Arthur: The Truth behind the Legend:
In this investigation Rodney Castelden uses up-to-date archaeological and documentary evidence to recreate the history and society of Dark Age Britain and its kings. He revives the possibility that Tintagel was an Arthurian residence, and proposes a radical new theory - that Arthur escaped alive from his final battle. A location is even suggested for perhaps the greatest mystery, the location of Arthur's grave.
The Picts and the Scots: In the light of recent archaeological discoveries this book examines the evidence for the relationship between these two peoples, tracing their development from raids on Roman Britain to the formation of rival Dark Age kingdoms that produced a unique artistic inheritance.
The Celts: Uncovering the Mythic and Historic Origins of Western Culture: This comprehensive treatment of Celtic civilization peels back the layers of European history beyond the Greco-Roman influence to reveal the ancient Celtic people who were the real source of our Western social, political, and literary values.
Ladies of the Lake: A new copy is not available at this time. There are only TEN used copies of this title available. "Ladies of the Lake" portrays nine of the women in Arthurian legend. These are the Ladies of the Lake in whom the ancient Celtic Goddess is fragmented and reflected.
Magic and Witchcraft in the Dark Ages: ...looks at explanations of the black arts as they existed during early medieval centuries in Western Europe. It objectively examines the historical development of magic and witchcraft and emphasizes the reality of these black arts. ..examines writings of medieval encyclopedists, code of pagan law, and the Church Fathers from the fourth to the eighth centuries. By remaining objective and employing such historiographical and theological details to his work, Duke creates a high quality and unique study which supports refutations of rationalist historians who see middle-age witchcraft as a delusion.
