Magic and Witchcraft in the Dark Ages:

...looks at explanations of the black arts as they existed during early medieval centuries in Western Europe. Le Morte D'Arthur

Le Morte D' Arthur
Le Morte D' Arthur

First published by William Caxton in 1485, Sir Thomas Malory's unique and splendid version of the Arthurian legend tells an immortal story of love, adventure, chivalry, treachery, and death. The rousing epic of King Arthur and his court has had a lasting effect on the traditions and literature of the English-speaking people. These well-known tales represent the bridge between pagan and Christian, Druid and Dominus. Arthur emerges at the end of the Roman Empire and the beginning of a British nation.

Monks digging near the Lady Chapel at Glastonbury Abbey in 1191 discovered the grave of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere. On April 19, 1278 their bodies were reburied, witnessed by King Edward I and Queen Eleanor, in a black marble tomb inside the Abbey. When the Abbey was destroyed in 1539 on Henry the 8th's orders, the tomb was destroyed. The site is now marked by a plaque.

The Grail: The Celtic Origins of the Sacred Icon

"The Matter of Britain, as the Arthurian legends are called, holds as much power for the contemporary reader as it did for medieval lords and ladies... the author strips from Arthurian legend all he considers dross, and so reveals the original British warrior-hero who resisted the Saxons in the fifth century.

Beowulf: A New Verse Translation

Beowulf: A New Verse Translation
Beowulf: A New Verse Translation

The inescapability of death and the transience of all things permeates it from its first lines to its conclusion. The work of a culture deeply concerned with these issues--extraordinary translation-- gripping and racy, startingly contemporary.--a faithful rendering that is simultaneously an original and gripping poem in its own right--compelling and instantly mesmerizing. A major literary accomplishment that may indeed make poetry mainstream again.
